Fraud & Theft To Cost Retailers £1bn after ChristmasA shocking statistic has come to light this festive period as it seems the projected rate of retail crime will be costing shops over £1 billion throughout the whole year. It is said that average household income and the level of stretched budgets this year will be the main contributing factor. The pre-Christmas period alone will be costing £61 million worth of the damages as the over seers of meagre bank accounts struggle to put presents under the tree. This statistic is up 6.2% on last year’s crime rates says a study conducted by the Centre for Retail Research (CRR). Over the whole of the Christmas period, £656 million will be lost due to shoplifters, this is a gargantuan amount. The worst thing is, for those impoverished few who have tight purse strings but are on the straight and narrow, the price of consumer goods is only going to rise to make up for the amount that is stolen.
