Gas and Electricity Cost More in the North than SouthThere is a £92 difference in the gas and electricity prices of the areas in the north and south of England and Wales. According to a survey done by the website EnergyHelpLine.com, the areas with the highest prices are the ones that have the highest level of unemployment. Merseyside and North Wales are the ones that came out on top with bills for gas and electricity costing £1,373 per year. The ones living in the South East only pay £79 less every year as their expenses for gas and electricity just reach about £1,294. North Scotland has the lowest cost for energy as they only pay about £1,281 per year. Other areas that have cheap energy costs are East Midlands at £1,291, London at £1,293, South England at £1,294, and South East at £1,294. The North West region has the second highest unemployment rate in the country, with 9.4 percent of the working force without any job. Wales is at 9 percent unemployment rate, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.
